Radon Testing

When Does My Home Need to Be Tested for Radon?

Radon poses a hazardous threat to the physical safety of you and your family. It is an odorless and tasteless gas that cannot be detected without a proper assessment. The team at TEK Inspections is here to answer all of your radon questions. We want to help you understand when a radon test is necessary. We recommend you schedule a radon test for your Reno area home when you find yourself in any of the three circumstances below.

1. Buying a New Home

When buying a new home, it’s always a good idea to have the radon levels tested before signing on the dotted line. At TEK, we use modern testing methods that can detect any level of radon in the home. This will give you a clear picture of whether or not this substance poses a threat to you and your family. If it does, you can have radon mitigation performed before you even move in. Alternatively, you can choose to purchase a different home.

2. Renovating Your Home

It is possible to trigger the release of radon when making structural changes or having repairs completed on the foundation. Repainting the dining room or renovating the upstairs bathroom is not very likely to have an effect on radon entering your home. On the other hand, a basement renovation is definitely a valid reason for having your home tested for radon.

3. Moving to a Lower Level

Radon testing is also recommended when moving to a lower level of your home that hasn’t been lived in before. You may be moving an older teenager downstairs so they can have more privacy. Or, perhaps your parents will be staying with you indefinitely and the basement is the perfect area for a guest suite.
